Emergency Replacement Alloy Steel Shaft for the Steel Mill Industry
01. Challenge
A steel coil coating industry client called Aeromet with an emergency: a recoiler arbor shaft unexpectedly broke while in service, and it needed to be replaced in a hurry so that the client could minimize downtime.
02. Approach
Aeromet worked quickly to accommodate the client and get their equipment up and running. To fabricate this recoiler arbor shaft, our engineers used CAD/CAM software to design the shaft and we also created a solid model. We machined 4340 heat treated steel forging on our Ryazan CNC lathe and Union Floor Bar Milling Machine to produce the shaft that was 15” in diameter, 156” long and 5,000 lbs., with a precision tolerance of .001”.The shaft was completed with a smooth 32 RMS finish.
03. Results
Aeromet is well suited to handle all emergencies and we were able to provide this client with a high quality and quick emergency replacement. We fulfilled all of our client’s requirements and met ISO 9001:2015 standards.
